St Devenick's

Namibia Mission at Imkerhof Training Centre

Kathleen and Udo Wahl have worked in Namibia for many years now and several of our church members have visited them.

Recently the children in the Home and School they established and ran for a long time have been found foster families in the community. This has been a season of change at Imkerhof which has been daunting and unsettling as well as exciting and refreshing after having “let go” of the children and staff of the Children’s Home and School. On the one hand they miss everyone very much but on the other hand to see the children now settling into their new families and schools so well is a real pleasure.

Their work continues in two ways:

1. Training leaders and pastors for village churches at a Bible School they run, over a two year period. There are almost 70 former students now throughout Namibia who are in Christian leadership and periodically they return for refresher courses and reunions and for a time of encouragement – sharing testimonies, teaching, discussion groups and worship together as well as catching up on news of people they haven’t seen for a while.

2. The work which St Devenick’s supports is the Care & Compassion ministry which cares for people living with HIV. Monika is in charge of this work in which they educate local villages about HIV, encourage people to take HIV tests and then support those who discover they are infected. The hope is that as they reach out to those infected with HIV with the love of God and the encouragement of his Truth they can really see people’s lives change for the better.
